National GIS Steering Committee Holds First Meeting of New Year |

The Centre for GIS (CGIS) recently hosted Qatar's National GIS Steering Committee's first meeting of 1997. Among the topics discussed were various methods to increase cooperation among agencies to facilitate data sharing, the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for GIS implementation throughout the country, and a refocusing of the CGIS training centre resources to increase the training of Qatari nationals.
Among
the 15 members present were, from right to left, Ali Bin
Sa'ad Al-Kuwari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) and Acting Chairman of the
committee; Hussain Ali Al-Sayegh, Head of Administrative
Services at CGIS and Secretary General of the committee; Dr.
A. Rahman Ali Al-Buanain, Vice Chairman of the committee;
Dr. Mohd Ali Al-Kubaisi, Dean of Students and Head of the
GIS Unit at the University of Qatar; and Sheikh Ali Bin
Nasser Al-Thani, Director of the Civil Engineering
Department at MMAA
