Abdulla Saleh Al-Kuwari, former Head of GIS Support Services was recently appointed, by Ministerial Decree, to the position of Assistant Head of The Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS).

Al-Kuwari, has been with CGIS since 1992. In his role as Head of GIS Support Services, he has been instrumental in coordinating the implementation of GIS in the many governmental agencies using the technology. He is also responsible for managing the CGIS training centre, which has earned an international reputation for its high standards in GIS training. (See related article in this issue, "CGIS Training - Centre of Excellence").

Observes Al-Kuwari, "The use of GIS technology here in Qatar continues to expand rapidly. It seems that the more it is used, the greater the demand. One application stimulates the development of two others. I believe that my past experience in working with the many different agencies using GIS will be invaluable as CGIS moves to its next stage of growth."

"Abdulla has been an enormous asset to the Centre," comments Zul Jiwani, Head of CGIS. He is a reliable, dedicated employee and I have great confidence in his ability to assume greater responsibilities in his new role as Assistant Head of CGIS."
