CGIS Presents Map to Qatar National Museum

On May 8th, Zul Jiwani, Head of The Centre for GIS (CGIS) lead a delegation from CGIS including Hussain Al-Sayegh, CGIS Head of Administration Services and Alistair Strachan, Assistant Head of Mapping and Positioning Services in presenting a map of the country to the Qatar National Museum.

Accepting the map on behalf of the museum was Ahmad Abdulla Al-Sulaiti, Acting Director of Qatar's Antiquity and Museums Department and Ebrahim Jaber Al-Jaber, Director of the Qatar National Museum.

The map presented to the museum is an image map, which was compiled in a mosaic-like manner from satellite imagery. Beautiful to look at, the map essentially provides a detailed, photographic image of the entire country. The scale of the map is 1:100,000 and it measures 144 x 220 centimeters.

"This is the map of the future," states Jiwani. "I have a very strong feeling that this method of map making will become the trend."

Al-Sulaiti expressed his gratitude for the donation to the museum on behalf of the government and the residents of Qatar.
