The
State of Qatar in conjunction with the Government of Canada
are looking into the possibility of preparing a generic
Aeronautical Chart (possibly a Visual Flying Route) for
Qatar. This was discussed during an Aeronautical Chart group
meeting held at the Centre for Geographic Information
Systems (CGIS) recently.
Canada was represented by Mark Corey, Director of Mapping, Geomatics, and Gordon Plunkett, Director of Domestic and International Business Relations, Geomatics, Canada. Also present were the Head of the Centre for GIS, Qassim Al Ghanim and representatives from the Qatari Emiri Air Force, General Headquarters, Civil Aviation Department and the Qatar Aviation College.
It was agreed that a second meeting is required by the concerned Qatar organizations before any joint responses concerning the draft chart specifications were made. The meeting has been scheduled for November 26, 1997.
On the other hand, the State of Qatar and the Government of Canada embarked on a decision to review the Memorundum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in 1992. During the meeting held at the Centre for GIS, a draft with some modification to the agreement was presented to the Canadian delegation.
Both parties agreed to consult with their respective governments on the changes that had to be made in the agreement. Present during the discussion was the Head of the Centre for GIS Qassim Al Ghanim, Assistant Head of the CGIS Abdulla Al Kuwari and the Head of Administration Services Hussein Ali Al-Sayegh. The Canadian government was represented by Mark Corey, Director of Mapping, Geomatics and Gordon Plunkett, Director of Domestic and International Business Relations, Geomatics, Canada.
